Carlo Boutton

Carlo Boutton holds a PhD from the University of Leuven and has built a career at the intersection of scientific excellence, innovation, and strategic leadership.

He began his industry career at Algonomics, contributing to the rational design of protein therapeutics and establishing a strong foundation in innovation-driven biotech research.

At Tibotec, a Johnson & Johnson company, he contributed to HIV and HCV drug discovery through structure-based drug design and cheminformatics, supporting the advancement of high-impact therapeutic programs.

Carlo went on to play a key leadership role in the growth of Ablynx, where he helped advance Nanobody VHH science and expand the NANOBODY® platform into multiple therapeutic modalities, including multispecifics, immunotherapies, and antibody-drug conjugates. Following the company’s acquisition by Sanofi, he was appointed Global Head of Innovation for Large Molecules Research, where he led innovation strategy across Nanobodies, antibodies, and cytokines.

Since joining Biotalys in 2022 as Chief Scientific Officer, Carlo has led the advancement of the company’s Agrobody technology platform and research pipeline. In 2025, he was appointed interim Chief Executive Officer, underscoring his ability to translate scientific vision into strategic leadership and organizational impact.
